{"id":905,"date":"2015-03-30T21:14:51","date_gmt":"2015-03-30T21:14:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/atlanticpath.ca\/?page_id=905"},"modified":"2024-11-27T11:51:40","modified_gmt":"2024-11-27T15:51:40","slug":"about-our-participants","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.atlanticpath.ca\/index.php\/about-us\/about-our-participants\/","title":{"rendered":"Participants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2287\" src=\"https:\/\/www.atlanticpath.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/PATH_cohort_data.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1461\" height=\"886\" \/><strong>We started this journey in 2009 and the support from our participants has been tremendous!!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>More than 34,000 people from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador have participated in the Atlantic PATH Study.\u00a0<\/strong><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1719 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.atlanticpath.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/participants-238x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"186\" height=\"234\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.atlanticpath.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/participants-238x300.png 238w, https:\/\/www.atlanticpath.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/participants.png 634w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 186px) 100vw, 186px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Atlantic Canadians from Port aux Basques, NL to Ingonish, NS, Alma, NB, and Alberton, PEI, have shared information, as well as biosamples including blood, urine and saliva samples, toenail clippings and even their tap water.<\/p>\n<p>We have created the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlanticpath.ca\/index.php\/are-you-a-researcher\/\">Atlantic PATH Research Platform<\/a> which holds this study data and biosamples.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Linkage<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As was planned from the start of the Atlantic PATH Study, we are adding information about participants that is routinely collected by your doctor, clinic and hospital visits and is stored in provincial databases.\u00a0 This includes the provincial health insurance programs, cancer registries, vital statistics, and information from acute care hospitals in the Atlantic Provinces.<\/p>\n<p>Please <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlanticpath.ca\/index.php\/contact-us\/\">contact us<\/a> if you would prefer that we do not\u00a0add your routinely collected personal health information to the Research Platform.<\/p>\n<p>More information about linkage is available\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlanticpath.ca\/index.php\/linkage\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Withdrawal options:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Participation is completely voluntary and you may change your level of involvement with Atlantic PATH.<\/p>\n<p>You may choose:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>No further contact<\/strong> \u2013 We will not contact you for more information. The information that has already been given will continue to be included in future research projects.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>No further use\/complete withdrawal<\/strong> \u2013 We will destroy all information and biosamples that you provided and we will not contact you for more information.<\/p>\n<p>Please contact us if you would like to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlanticpath.ca\/index.php\/participation-preferences\/\">change your level of involvement<\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Privacy<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Protecting our participants\u2019 privacy is our fundamental ethical obligation. We have made sure that all identifiable personal information, such as names, date of birth, complete address and contact information are kept separately from the study data and biosamples. A code\u00a0number, only available to\u00a0the Executive Director, can link the identifying personal information to the study data and biosamples.
